Between The Lines: Joshua Idehen Breaking down "Your Mum Does The Washing"
Current Politics, Ideology, Male Feminism & Failing Confidently
Hey Friends,
I hope all is well. <3
I’m just swinging by to share the latest episode of Between The Lines, featuring the hilarious & thought-provoking wordsmith Joshua Idehen. The man behind *in my world*, the most spoken about song of last year, “Your Mum Does The Washing”
I have to drop it below. If you haven’t heard it, I urge you to hit play.
I played it on radio for the first time last year and the response was wildfire. I havnt’t seen a track spark discussion like this in all my time on the airwaves. So naturally I had to get him on the podcast.
Not many people can make politics & ideology in this current climate feel laughable but Joshua has a way of making you giggle at the absurdity of where we are at but he also encourages you to engage. The conversation sees us running through all of the ism’s Joshua highlights in the piece; Capitalism, Feminism and an ism that is very pressing at this moment in time, yes we delicately went there. But we also spoke about the craft of poetry writing, ideas forming in the shower, failing confidently and the perks of success arriving a little later in life.
My favourite line from our chat is “I’m sowing seeds I will never harvest.” I say this with the knowledge of knowing the privilege I have everyday, even to be able to make the next comment comes with a massive level of privilege. But I’m sure I’m not the only one who can feel extremely sensitive to the tragedies happening around the world and at times they can feel so overwhelming both physically and mentally. In not knowing where to start or what action to take I just retreat. But hearing this was a powerful reminder to stay engaged and to think about the seeds I want to sow for the future generations of humanity.
In times that can feel polarising I hope this conversation feels like a warm hug & “pick me up.” Joshua is the friend we all need in our pocket to get us through the day.
Enjoy the episode below , as always feedback highly appreciated
Much Love
