Global Sounds
Global Sounds is a series I created for the BBC, it drops annually and is somewhere between a radio show & a podcast. Leaning more on speech, interviews and insights. The idea for the series is to look at how our identity & heritage shape the music we make for the dancefloor and how we use that to connect with our diasporas.
This year we made 4 episodes that look at the UK South Asian Diaspora and the musical waves they have been making, we look at the linage of South African dance music, I take you to Colombia’s Barranquilla carnival and we look at sounds of the French Caribbean community from parties in Paris to legendary bands like Kassav.
I would love for you to hear the shows, have a listen HERE
The Theatre Darling…..
So I made a promise to myself this year to see more theatre, I couldn’t tell you the last time I had been. I kept seeing a poster for a show randomly in my local cafe and the title instantly grabbed me.
“For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Hue Gets Too Heavy”
Wow, with a title like that, you would either say not for me, too deep or you would be curious to hear and learn more. On a hungover train back from Manchester I was curious to learn more, so I booked it for my Mum & I.
I know it’s been a while, but it was one of the best shows I have seen in my life. Charting the emotional plight of 6 Black men and their life experiences. It was heavy, but it was also funny, entertaining and thought-provoking.
So if you get a chance to come to central London, then I would highly recommend that you check this show out. It’s running till June. I’m down to watch it all over again!!

And lastly, if you are based in London I’m throwing a party April 13th at my all-time fave South East London venue, The Carpet Shop in Peckham. My guest is the incredible Belgium producer and DJ Blck Mamba we’ll be going toe to toe all night celebrating electronic music from the Afro Diaspora. Spread the word & tell your London m8s.
I’ll drop the rest of my Summer dates in the next newsletter. And also please let me know if you would like me to play in a town near you!
